CONGRATS! YOU’VE SOLD IT, NOW what?
POSHMARK SHIPPERS GUIDE
HURRAY! You got a sale, now what do you do? When I first started on Poshmark and Ebay, I loved the thrill of sourcing. Listing was always a chore, but shipping things that were actually sold - i HATED IT. Mostly because, I didn’t have a great system. Once I got a sale, I would run around the house, looking for empty boxes, reusable Amazon mailers…anything I could find to ship my item out. And then came the truly hard part: Printing the label. I didn’t own a printer or a scale. So, I literally had to take my items, walk to the post office, and have the post office clerk weigh each item and manually print out a postage stamp for each one. Terrible. Now, it’s so much easier (i still hate going thru my inventory for sold items —- but that is a different story). Thanks to the reseller tools below, I’m able to pack, print, and ship all from the comfort of my own home.
PACK IT
Boxes and weather don’t mix
While i DO love the free Priority USPS supplies, they aren’t all you need. After a few non-5 star ratings and not-so glowing love notes, I realized no one likes their clothing placed into a box or envelope without SOME protection. These two clear bag options help keep items more secure from the elements. Some Poshers swear by the “bread bag'“, others use the clear poly bags below.
Make it Nice
This can be a divisive topic amongst resellers, Poshers, eBayers…etc. Should we go the extra mile and include thank you notes, tissue paper, stickers? I think it offers a nice touch and can promote repeat business and good seller ratings. But, it’s not for everyone. However, there are some small, not very expensive ways you can stand out. If you’re trying to truly create a business out of this you have to make your “brand” stand out.
ship it
The next set of items helped me with my workflow. When I first started on eBay, I would always undercharge on shipping because I didn’t know how much things weighed. I picked up an inexpensive postal scale and this fixed everything. I could quickly weigh my items, charge accurate shipping, and create my own shipping labels. For Poshmark, the Dymo 4XL helped immensely. I don’t have to shop for ink (it’s a thermal printer), and I don’t have to struggle with cutting paper or using tape to place my labels on items. It looks SO professional. Poshers also swear by the similar Rollo Printer. And while I do pay for labels, the convenience level is worth it. As I write this (11/17/2019) both the Rollo Printer & Dymo are about $100 off on Amazon. Get it here!
QUICK TIPS:
Sometimes, it takes a bit for your tracking to update in the system. Don’t freak out! To avoid this, you can see if the post office will scan in your items and give you a receipt. However, if you have multiple items to drop off — they may decline this.
You can schedule a home USPS pick up in most locations!
Order USPS’s free Priority Shipping boxes. ** Do not use the Express boxes** Save yourself heartache, and stick with the regular Priority boxes.
Remember: Poshmark’s weight limit is 5lbs. Shoes and bundles can get heavy. You will have to pay an extra fee for anything over 5lbs.
